Abstract

On 28th April 2023 at Unite for Education event hold by Permata Bank, Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Education Indonesia, explicitly demanded Indonesian students as the future generations of Indonesia to equip themselves with innovative thinking and creativity to survive the digital era. He supported this possibility by informing all educational institutions to match their outputs based on the industrial needs. This is done as the key of improving education system and outputs in Indonesia. Is it really the correct approach and belief? This paper will criticize Nadiem Makarim’s argument mentioned above based on Paulo Freire and Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s philosophy in education.
