Abstract

Pharmaceutical storage must comply with regulations to maintain quality, prevent degradation, and avoid misuse. Pharmacies play a crucial role in this process, especially considering that geographical factors such as temperature and humidity can affect the physical characteristics of drugs. This study aims to evaluate the appropriateness of drug storage in lowland and highland pharmacies based on pharmaceutical service standards, identify factors contributing to the degradation of preparation quality, and analyze the impact of temperature, humidity, and storage conditions on the physical stability of pharmaceutical preparations containing ibuprofen as the active ingredient. This was a descriptive observational study involving physical characteristic testing of solid, semi-solid, and liquid dosage forms. Evaluations were conducted from month 0 to month 3 and analyzed using SPSS version 24. The results showed that solid preparations underwent significant changes in friability, hardness, and disintegration time tests, but not in organoleptic tests. Semi-solid preparations showed significant differences in adhesion and spreadability, but not in pH. Meanwhile, liquid preparations did not exhibit significant changes in specific gravity, pH, or viscosity. In conclusion, the geographical conditions of pharmacy storage locations affect the physical stability of pharmaceutical preparations, particularly in solid and semi-solid dosage forms. These findings highlight the importance of implementing standardized storage systems, especially in regions with notable differences in temperature and humidity (p < 0.05).
