Abstract
Objective: Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant compound characterized by poor solubility in water and a significant molecular weight. The study aimed to formulate coenzyme Q10 into a Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) system using a combination of liquid lipids (nyamplung oil) and solid lipids (poloxamer 188), which will be made into an emulsion.
Materials and methods: The main components of NLC consist of poloxamer 188 solid lipid, nyamplung oil liquid lipid, and tween 80 surfactant. NLC can be prepared by emulsification using an ultra-turax with a high-shear homogenizer (HSH) manufacturing technique.
Results: Evaluation of the physical characteristics of F1 (3:3), F2 (2:4), F3 (1:5) in the tests of pH, particle size, polydispersity index, viscosity, zeta potential, and entrapment efficiency had results that met the requirements, but not with the dispersion test, which did not meet the criteria.
Conclusion: The variation of the solid lipid concentration of poloxamer 188 and the liquid lipid of sampling oil influences the test results of the physical and chemical characteristics of NLC preparations.
