Abstract

The challenges of Indonesian society in facing the growth of the elderly population are not balanced by the improvement of their health quality. The high prevalence of drug interactions and the absence of supervision pose a risk to the safety of geriatric patients with polypharmacy in outpatient clinics. This study aims to determine the risk factors associated with potential drug interactions. This research method uses a retrospective cross-sectional with a sample size of 400 patients and uses random sampling. A total of 387 (91.8%) patients have the potential to experience drug interactions. The interaction of beta blocker drugs with diuretics is the most common interaction, namely 9.29%. There is a significant relationship between drug interactions and risk factors, gender (p-value: 0.002), comorbidities (p-value: 0.009), polypharmacy (p-value = 0.000).
