Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a condition requiring prolonged treatment. Face-to-face education is essential to enhance patient engagement in therapy. Structured education can enhance therapeutic outcomes and patients' capacity to control their condition (Seuring et al., 2019; Nelson et al., 2016). This study aims to provide a suitable educational program for T2DM Prolanis patients in the Banyumas Regency region. This research employs qualitative approaches utilizing focus group discussion (FGD) techniques to develop a suitable educational framework. The FGD was performed once with seven informants who satisfied the inclusion criteria. The discussion was recorded, and verbatim transcripts were created based on the informants' language, subsequently translated into English, followed by theme analysis. The FGD topics included the frequency of educational provision, the duration of each session, the program implementation period, the educational delivery methods, the educational materials, and the educators involved. The findings indicate that the educational program will be administered monthly for three months, each session spanning 30 to 60 minutes, by the Puskesmas pharmacist. The educators will evaluate the patient's needs and provide educational materials as necessary in a group consisting of five individuals, supplemented by booklets with self-management instructions. A trial of the educational program designed for T2DM Prolanis patients in the Banyumas Regency area is essential. The trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of the educational program in terms of clinical and humanistic outcomes.
