Abstract

Since the breakout of COVID-19 disease, students were familiar with synchronous and asynchronous learning in online class. Learning English as Foreign Language (EFL) in asynchronous class became a challenging learning method for the students to get better language acquisition. This study aimed to identify things that could motivate the students in learning EFL and how they motivate themselves to learn EFL independently during asynchronous class. In this descriptive qualitative research, the author used questionnaire and interview to gain the data. The participants mostly were sophomores who experienced in joining online learning for more than 3 semesters. Then, the results were analyzed descriptively to answer the research questions. At last, the findings show that the most helpful tools on Learning Management System (LMS) for the participants are lecture note and video prepared by the teachers. A well-prepared content on LMS obviously boost students’ motivation to comprehensively pass the learning objectives during asynchronous meeting.
