In communicating with others, people may use different ways to speak the same information. Sociolinguistics considers this phenomenon as language styles. This research presented two research questions; (1) What are the most commonly used language styles uttered by Joe Gardner in the Soul movie? and (2) What factors influence the language styles uttered by Joe Gardner in the Soul movie? To answer the first research question, the researcher used the language style theory from Martin Joos (1976) that divided the language style into five categories; frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate styles. Then, the researcher used the language theory from Holmes (2013) to answer the second research question. He mentioned that the situational factors that influence such language styles are addressees, settings, topics, and functions. This research is a content analysis. The primary source of data was from the movie script. The writer gathered 189 utterances from the movie script to analyze. The result of the study showed that the most commonly used style by Joe Gardner, based on the analysis, was the casual style. Meanwhile, addressee became the most influencing factor in Joe’s utterances.
