Abstract
English academic writing remains problematic for students at the highest academic levels, including those at doctoral school, as they have to write various texts passing courses and publishing articles in journals (Lin & Morrison, 2021). This paper is aimed at designing Academic Writing (AW) course; the survey 12 students took before the course and the evaluation after it. Learning materials, classroom observations and reflections of individual feedbacks were included in the data. The results indicated that participants had not had AW training before they entered the doctoral program. The findings also showed challenges in writing articles; writing various texts, structuring, linking ideas, citing sources, paraphrasing, elaborating, and organizing ideas in paragraphs. Finally, they recommended that AW should be required course and accomplished during the first year of their study.
