Abstract


Undestanding an English text can not be seperated from Translation Skill in order to find out the equivalent words which have the closest meaning with the source text. Simply, it can be said that the better we translate or find out  the meaning of the texts then the better understanding we can get. This research is conducted to know the Translation method, Translation quality and The students’ understanding the English text. This research used Qualitative Method. Based on the discussion, the writer can find some points as follows; The students used 7 kinds of translation techniques. They are; Litheral, Word for Word, Addition, Modulation, Borrowing, Transposisi, Deletion. From those translation technique, Litheral was the most frequent technique used by the translator 289 times (83.77 %). Whenever, Deletion was the less frequent used by the translator in translating texts 3 times (0.87 %). However, the translation quality assesment result shows that Most of the data were translated accurately (237 data/ 68.70 %). However, there are 68 (19.71 %) data in this research that are considered as less accurate translation and the rest, there are 40 (11.59 %) data  is considered as inaccurate translation.  Since most of the data translated by the students are accurately, it can be inferred that the student’s comprehension in reading English texts is Good.
