Abstract

The present study aims at devloping android application “guru grammar” to learn English tenses integrated with character building “anti-corruption”. The development of the application used multimedia-based model proposed by Lee & Owens (2004) consisting of four phases, namely multimedia needs analysis, multimedia design, multimedia development and implementation, and multimedia evaluation. In this case, for the first step, the developers have conducted need analysis to determine the product specification. In finding the students’ learning need, the developers distributed questionnaire to 140 students of English Language Education Program Universitas Brawijaya in the academic year of 2016/2017. The questionnaire’s result showed that 80% of the students experienced difficulties in learning and using English tenses accurately and contextually. The students also said that it was good if there was free accessibel application for learning English tenses contextually. Therefore, based on the results of need analysis, the developers concluded that it is urgently needed to develop android application for university students to learn English tenses.
