Abstract

Universitas Muhamadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is one of the universities that apply English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in some departments, such as Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Management, and others. Each department learns English using different terms depending on the field of study they learn. UMY has established a program called MyKlass for a couple of years ago in facilitating the teaching and learning activities. This program is used effectively, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic era, since the university should conduct the learning activities online. This program provides many features, such as sharing materials in document, picture, or media; conducting quizzes; assignment submission; and even attendance. However, teaching ESP using MyKlass also faces some difficulties, such as (1) students' motivation in reading the material, (2) teachers' control in evaluating students' study progress, (3) students' difficulties in improving English vocabulary in a specialized language. The writer will distribute an open questionnaire to some students who are taking the ESP course this semester. Therefore, by finding the difficulties in the teaching-learning process, the writer would like to find the best way to teach ESP using MyKlass.
