STUDENTS’ EXCUSES IN DOING PLAGIARISM IN ENGLISH WRITING ASSIGNMENT

Abstract


This research is based on the researcher’s experience while checking students’ writing assignments in English class. It was found what some works were suspiciously not their original writing since the vocabulary and grammar of their writing became too complex and exceeded their writing capabilities. Moreover, those acts indicate plagiarism. This study aims to discover the categories of plagiarism that the students of SMA BPK PENABUR Bogor Grade X did in writing factual report text and the excuses why they did that kind of attitude in English class’ writing assignment. The case study will be conducted by categorizing students’ writing assignments into several types of plagiarism, asking the students to answer questionnaires, and interviewing some students who have significant data collected. In addition, the researcher expected to discover the reasons why students do plagiarism in order to be a self-reflection for the teacher to understand the needs of the students in doing writing assignments.
