Abstract

Peer assessment is believed to be a powerful strategy to improve EFL learners’ language skills as it can develop their awareness in terms of language use and accuracy. In the online learning mode, there are growing concerns regarding the tools that can effectively facilitate peer assessment. The workshop feature in Moodle is designed to enable teachers to allow students to do peer assessments with ease. Indeed, the Moodle-based workshop is a fruitful activity that is worth exploring and utilizing. This paper explores the implementation of Moodle-based workshop activity to facilitate peer assessment in an EFL writing task using a descriptive qualitative approach. In addition, students’ perception on the peer assessment activity is elaborated. It is hoped that the findings of this small study can shed lights on the best ways to utilize the Moodle-based workshop activity, as well as inspire teachers to encourage peer assessment among students. This paper also provides implications for EFL teachers regarding strategies for the effective preparation and use of peer assessment.
