Abstract

Getting students dedicate their attention and best effort in learning can be very demanding when in an off-line classroom, let alone through online learning sessions to develop essays analyzing literary works. This paper elaborates lessons learnt from online learning interactions impacted by the pandemic, in a Composition II course. By utilizing various accessible and practical platforms, such as Teams, Google Drive, and WhatsApp chat during the whole semester, the learning interactions take place on & offline, encompassing time and space.  Various learning strategies applied to help students learn, by making a step-by-step procedure of essay development, providing written feedback and additional time for online individual consultation. After every two weeks students are asked to write a reflection to see their responses. The result shows that besides strong writing skills and grammar mastery the more important factor for students to succeed is their determination, as some weak students could finally pass the course well while students with lack of determination failed.
