Abstract

In this globalization era, many people coming from various countries to visit or temporarily stay in Indonesia. Therefore, it becomes an urgent need for nursing students in Indonesia to speak English because they might take care of international patients. However, because of Covid-19 pandemic, EFL speaking classes in formal educations face a lot of challenges. Thus, integrating technology in EFL classes becomes the option so that the learning process can still happen. In addition, EFL teachers must think about teaching techniques to facilitate learners to learn speaking. This paper presents 95 nursing students’ experiences in one synchronous speaking class using 4/3/2 technique during Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the data taken from the students’ reflective journal, it appeared that 4/3/2 technique could be one of teaching techniques that can be employed in EFL speaking classes during this Covid-19 pandemic. The participants felt that 4/3/2 technique helped them develop their linguistics competences (such as pronunciation and grammar), speaking fluency, confidence, and motivation to improve their speaking skills. The limitations and also recommendations for future research will also be presented in this paper.
