Abstract

This study aimed to investigate whether the English Conversation Class textbook of Industrial Engineering study program semester 2 reflected an English as a Lingua France (ELF) perspective concerning the content and how the students’ attitudes towards the implementation of ELF perspective in the class are. This study employed content analysis by analyzing the textbook used in the class and qualitative study by conducting observation and distributing open-ended questionnaire to 23 students. The study revealed that the English Conversation Class textbook reflected an ELF perspective and the students showed positive attitudes towards the implementation of ELF perspective in the class. However, it was found that there were few parts of the textbook showing the reference of native speaker norm in the teaching which contradicts to ELF perspective. Due to the limitation of the study, further research is needed to see the English mastery of the students in the class implementing ELF perspective.
