Abstract

I believe that teachers begin their early professional journey when they embark their study in teacher education. The long and complex pathways of this journey trigger me to investigate further about the process of becoming a teacher through a mixed-method study with an online survey and interview to collect data. This presentation is my reflection as a teacher educator and my reflection on the study that I conducted in a university-based teacher education in Indonesia. It aims to unpack factors that involve in future teacher preparation and their relationships through the lens of a cohort of final-year English language education students. The statistical and thematic analyses have revealed the complexities as well as the interdependence of the factors. Those interrelated components, including personal and academic dimensions as well as social and professional connectedness, provide more elaboration on this early professional journey. The discussion includes the description of the profiles, formation phase, and consolidation phase. The research results raise an awareness of the process of the initial professionalism growth, which is unique to each individual, and the contribution of each factor involving in the journey.
