STUDENTS' PERCEPTION OF YOUTUBE USED TO SUPPORT ENGLISH SPEAKING LEARNING

Abstract


The objective of this study is to investigate students’ perception of YouTube used ultimately for supporting their English speaking learning. Many of us know, the rise of technology and the growth of YouTube viewers nowadays are very high, thus the use of YouTube is optimal for a lot of purposes including English speaking learning context. The researchers are truly interested to check the students’ perception of YouTube. Therefore, the researchers applied mixed method by using survey design with the help of close-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The questions were built on the basis of the three concentrations which were accessibility, usefulness, and practicality of YouTube to support English speaking learning. 55 students on the second semester at SMK 3 Perguruan Cikini were asked to responds the instruments. The finding showed that students positively agreed that YouTube that can be accessed anytime and anywhere easily, and it supports students’ need in improving their English speaking skills. Furthermore, Youtube also offers easiness to use or practice English speaking since many English learning videos that allows students to easily obtain skilled of other English native speakers or conversation.
