STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS ON THE VIRTUAL MEETING APPLICATION FOR ENGLISH LEARNING ACTIVITY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract


The COVID-19 Pandemic has greatly affected many fields of businesses, especially education. Schools are to cease the face-to-face meetings and replace them with an online learning system. The online learning could be conducted via various platforms and applications. One of the options to conduct the online learning is using virtual meeting applications. This study focuses on the perceptions of the students in SMP Pangudi Luhur Wedi Klaten when participating in virtual meting applications. This research is intended to answer two research questions regarding the implementation of the virtual meeting in the English class and the students’ perceptions of the virtual meeting application in the learning process. This qualitative research employed survey method with observation sheets, questionnaire sheets and interviews as the data collection instruments. All the findings are served in descriptive manner. The findings reveal that the implementation of the virtual meeting in SMP Pangudi Luhur Wedi Klaten has followed almost all the criteria of conducting effective virtual meetings such as informing the expected outcome, giving test, well organizing the materials, and giving feedbacks. The students there enjoyed attending the class using the virtual meeting applications. They even claimed that they could understand the material better when the teacher delivered it through the applications.
