Abstract

Forms of figurative language have been used in various forms of literature and used to share the expressions that are difficult to convey in literal language; including in The Bible. Therefore, English as Foreign Language (EFL) students may find difficulties in identifying figurative language. Many studies investigated the figurative language used in The Bible. However, few emphasized the examples of figurative language and their meaning for students’ language learning. Hence, this study aimed to examine the significance of the Psalm’s figurative language. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. In collecting the data, the researcher search and read all the verses in Psalm through the electronic bible and categorized them based on the kinds of figurative language. The findings showed that certain figurative expressions were used in the Psalm Bible, such as simile, personification, and Hyperbole. In the discussion, the meanings of figurative language were elaborated. The researcher found 12 data of simile, 11 data of personification, and six data of hyperbole. It is clear that figurative language plays a significant part in this bible and EFL students may find its examples through the Bible.
