The quality of English teaching at Islamic based primary schools in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung has always been an issue to review due to the fact that the Ministry of Education and Cultures, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia steadily requires to implement Project-Based Curriculum in all levels of education. On the other hand, many primary school English teachers had not been given proper dissemination and trainings yet about Indonesia’s new national curriculum. Therefore, this study aimed at knowing Islamic based primary school principals’ perspectives toward the implementation of ELT. This is qualitative study with semi-structured interview to obtain the data. The depth-interview was conducted at one public school and one private school in Pangkalpinang. The study resulted some important facts and valuable suggestion regarding the implementation of ELT in primary schools which cover macro and micro level factors to consider in the teaching of English for young learners.
