THE JOURNALIST’S OBJECTIVITY ON BARACK OBAMA’S INDIA MUSLIMS RIGHTS

Abstract


The primary purpose of this research is exploring the journalist’s objectivity. It determines through the utilization of engagement. Engagement deals with the source of the discourse by scheming resources and writer or speaker’s opinion. The researchers apply Martin and Rose (2007) framework by classifying the data into Heterogloss comprises Projecting source, Modality, and Concession as well as Monogloss. The researchers use qualitative methodology for the research and employ purposive sample in collecting the data. The data obtained from BBC newspaper about Muslim rights in India. The findings showed that almost the entire data is classified as heterogloss, this implies that the journalist positioned himself as an objective writer on the news he reported. He collected the data from the opinions of notable figures. He delivers his arguments objectively. Furthermore, he also gives his perception towards the issue subjectively, he shares his arguments and views based on his own opinions.
