BOARDING SCHOOL STUDENTS' RESPONSES ON TIKTOK AS POP CULTURE IN LEARNING ENGLISH: A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY

Abstract


In the modern era, TikTok has become one of popular culture TikTok has also penetrated all aspects of people's lives, including the world of education. This study aims to explore the responses of Islamic boarding school students regarding the use of TikTok as popular culture in learning English. This study used a qualitative descriptive method where the data from this study were explored using interviews and observations. This study involved 9 participants at the Amanatul Ummah junior high school. The results of this study indicate that the use of TikTok has a positive impact on learning English including fun learning, student motivation, active participation, and school promotion. This research is limited to the type of popular culture and the variation of the participants. Therefore, it is suggested for future research be able to conduct similar research using other types of popular culture and increase the variety of participants.
