NON-EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND TEACHERS: TO WHAT EXTENT DOES THEIR PERCEPTION ON THE KNOWLEDGE OF PEDAGOGICAL COMPETENCE?

Abstract


The objective of this current research is to know the perception of non-educational background teachers toward the knowledge of pedagogical competence. It employed quantitative with survey research design. This research was conducted at private schools affiliated to the Teachers’ Association of Nahdlatul Ulama at Central Lombok regency. The population of this study was 1.703 identified teachers. The researchers applied disproportionate stratified random sampling technique and got 109 of non-educational background teachers only. A questionnaire which had been measured its validity and reliability was administered. The data were analysed using Likert-scale. The results showed that the percentage of Non-Educational Background Teachers toward the knowledge of Pedagogical Competence regarding the nature of education was 57%, Students’ characteristics was 53%, learning theories and implication was 49%, and curriculum was 75%. It could be concluded that the total percentage for the four sub-aspects of pedagogical competence was 58.5%.
