Improving the Quality of Japanese Language Exam Questions Through Analysis of JLPT N4 Question Items

Abstract


As a form of support for the government's mission to realize the nation's golden generation era in 2045, one way to hone the abilities is by providing quality of item questions that can enhance HOTS. Author is interested in conducting a deeper analysis of the test items in JLPT N4, especially regarding the question behavior so that it can be used as a reference in the future. The research findings indicate that the behavior of questions based on HOTS is 47%, characterized by the ability to measure higher-order thinking skills and based on contextual problems. The question formats are encompassing six types, with a relatively low difficulty level as 57% of the questions are categorized as easy. The discriminative power is considered good, with 49% of the questions falling into the categories of fair, good, and very good, also there are 69% of distractors that can be maintained.
