Abstract


The 4.0 era seems to be pressuring students to use technology obsessedly. The rapid progress of technology has helped writing activity inside and outside the classroom. However, this does not really help them become better writers. Some students still struggle with writing without the help of technology. In other words, technology is overused and students are too dependent on technology. Surprisingly, many advanced countries have switched back to printed books and texts to get students used to writing by hand. Consequently, this study wants to investigate deeper on manual writing instruction using doodle diaries in writing class. Mixed methods study indicates that weekly doodle diaries using paper and pencils actually help students to bring back the true happiness of writing. Apart from that, it also demonstrates that there is a significant improvement in students' writing skills after being taught using doodle diaries.
