Using both fiction and non-fiction stories, the researcher aimed to explore the variations by finding the most used figurative language and examining how it was used in different genre. ‘The Island’ as the fiction and ‘Gene & T-shirt’ as the non-fiction story were used. The researcher used qualitative methods and document analysis by using reading online platform from Readsy.com. It attempted to answer research questions, the researcher used Perrine's (1982:61) theory of figurative language classification, as cited in Wibisono and Widodo (2019): Metaphor, Simile, Hyperbole, and other terms. The result showed that most used figurative language in the stories were personification and metaphor.
