Abstract

Assessing the students’ grammar competence often becomes polemic. This is because the students often feel frustrated due to the difficulties found. Hence, it needs to invent an interesting assessment that can make the students feel comfortable and build high-order thinking levels when joining the grammar test. This study tried to investigate the students’ perceptions of their potential in building high-order thinking levels and comfort when joining the grammar test using a ‘funtainment-animation assessment’. The study used a qualitative approach within a narrative inquiry design. There were 3 students as the subjects of the study. The study used a depth interview as the instrument. The results showed that students investigated were able to recognize the problems and answer the questions correctly in doing the grammar test. Hence, a’ funtainment-animation assessment can be used as an alternative assessment to assess the students’ grammar competence by omitting their frustration.
