Abstract

This research discusses Christological themes by employing philosophical and scriptural ideas in the first Apology book written by Justyn Martyr when he defends the identity of Jesus Christ in front of his opponents. The study uses historical literature analysis to examine more deeply the thoughts of Justinus Martyr about Christ’ identity. Thus, the result of the study will contribute to provide the richness of Christ’s identity in the discussion of Christology to highlights the historical analogies and the sonship of Jesus to proclaim that Jesus is preexistence. The Jewish prophets also have foretold him in the Old Testament so that Jesus comes to fulfil the hope of Israel. Justyn also contrasts between Jesus as the son of God and the son of Jupiter. All his Christology is used to defend the Christian faith in the second century CE.
