Abstract

This study aims to describe the difficulties faced by students in learning English and the factors causing it. This study uses a qualitative approach with online observation, of course, with the analysis of each team. Analysis of research data was carried out in 3 ways, namely presentation of data via google form, drawing conclusions and verification. The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties of junior high school students in understanding English learning during a pandemic. The research method used is a qualitative method. Resource persons in this study were junior high school students from various provinces in Indonesia such as Java, Sulawesi and Sumatra. Data collection techniques used in the form of interviews and online observations.

Researchers suspect that there are difficulties experienced by junior high school students in online-based English learning, thus making this problem the background of the researcher and taking the initiative to conduct this research. The results showed that the difficulties experienced by students in learning English based online were Speaking, Writing, Listening, and Reading. The results showed that EFL students experienced various problems with learning English. It happens because of differences in the level of proficiency of students.
