Communication is a part of human life. Human cannot convey the purpose without communication. Human need a language and the language should have meanings. Language is divided into two parts, first is literal meaning and the second is non-literal meaning or figurative meaning. Figurative meaning commonly used in literary works, especially song lyrics.The problems developed during this research are the types of metaphorical expressions that used in Maroon 5’s elected song lyrics and the meaning of those metaphorical expressions.To analyze the meaning of the metaphor, this research used semantics as the approach. To collect the data the researcher use stratified sampling. After the metaphorical expressions are found, the researcher collected the data.  To answer the types of metaphor the researcher used the theory of Kovecses (2010) and Newmark (1998) as citied in Oliynyk (2014). To answer the meaning of metaphorical expression the researcher used the theory of metaphor.There are 10 song titles which consist of 33 song lines analyzed in this research. Those song lyrics are divided into three types of metaphor. Those types are dead metaphor, standard metaphor and original metaphor. To find the metaphorical meaning, the researcher compared the literal meaning and metaphorical expressions using semantic property.
