Abstract

Challenges experienced by Teachers of English for Young Learners (EYL) have been common issues for years, and the fact is the Teachers are experiencing more challenges during the 2020 pandemic due to linguistic and non -linguistic aspects. This study is aimed at exploring the challenges faced by Indonesian EYL Teachers also the opportunities which arise from their daily teaching. Based on some interviews involving four EYL Teachers from different regions of Indonesia, the study collected data of good practices and challenges related to their teaching such as how to engage young learners in learning, how to select material for online learning, how to balance the use of English and Indonesian languages to deliver instruction, and how to involve parents and schools as support systems.  It can be concluded that teachers’ creativity and competencies supported by school policy and parental involvement at home can open more opportunities for more engaging EYL Teaching during and after the pandemic.
