Abstract
Current technology development causes infinite creativity among people to express their thought and ideas on online platforms. One of the forms and results of people’s creativity is making a meme. In making memes, the use of linguistics features is unavoidable. Therefore, the study about the use of language in the meme is investigated in this study. This study aims to analyze the language used in Indonesian internet memes and to answer the question about how the linguistic features are influencing meme creation. Using a qualitative study with content analysis data, 10 memes from online websites and social media are taken to be observed further. The result shows that the memes are included and influenced by code-switching and code-mixing of Javanese, Indonesian, and English. Purposely, the memes are made wrongly (breaking the language rules). The memes are also not 100% grammatically correct and pragmatically ambiguous due to the amusement purpose.
