THE USE OF TWITTER TO INCREASE STUDENTS’ SLANG KNOWLEDGE AT SANATA DHARMA UNIVERSITY

Abstract


Nowadays social media is very easy to access for all ages, therefore social media has a huge impact on improving students’ digital literacy skills. The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of Twitter for improving students’ English slang knowledge at Sanata Dharma University. The researchers use Twitter because it is a big platform to find an idea or information in many languages. The subject of this research is 40 students of Sanata Dharma University from batch 2018 until 2020. This study is using an ex-post-facto methodology and the data were taken through questionnaires and library research. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analysed descriptively quantitatively and descriptively qualitatively. The findings show that the students who use Twitter in the English Language have a better vocabulary understanding than students who use Twitter in Indonesia Language. It can be concluded that the use of Twitter in English can improve students' English skills indirectly.Key Words:
