Multilingual people sometimes switch code from one to another at one occasion due to some reasons. Therefore, in this research, the researcher wants to find out the types of code switching used by the president of the Republic of Indonesia in his speech at the 75th National Independence Day. The researcher also wants to know the causes why such types of code switching happened in that formal situation. The method used in this research was a qualitative method and the data were collected through content analysis technique. The transcript of the speech was taken from the official website of the cabinet secretary of the Republic of Indonesia. After being analysed, there were found 10 code switching cases. Regarding Poplack’s theory, 1 out of 3 types of code switching was used, which was the intra-sentential switching
