Abstract
One factor that determines the efficiency of fabric type solar energy water distillation is the flow rate of contaminated water entering the distillation apparatus. Distillation efficiency will be maximized when the rate of water flow into the distillation apparatus is equal to the rate of evaporation of water in the distillation apparatus. A faucet is commonly used to regulate the distillation apparatus's water flow rate. However, setting the inlet flow rate with the faucet to get the inlet water flow rate equal to the evaporation rate is very difficult. This research will use a different method of controlling the flow rate of water entering the distillation from the existing one. This study aims to analyze the effect of the method of controlling the flow rate of the water entering the distillation on the efficiency of the distillation. The research was conducted experimentally using a distillation model with a distillation area of 0.5 m2. Data collection was carried out for 8 hours/day. The inflow rate varied by 3.6, 4.8, and 7.6 litres/hour. The results showed that the control method used in this study could increase the distillation efficiency by 28% compared to distillation with the tap water inlet flow control method.
