Last modified: 2022-10-02
Abstract
In one study, religious radicalism movements emerged in several universities in Indonesia. Intolerance grows among students. There are some students who do not respect certain religious teachings. Departing from this, this study aims to determine how far Religious Education in Higher Education, especially at Sanata Dharma University (USD) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has so far been able to counter religious radicalism. This research applied a qualitative method, supported by in-depth interviews. The research subjects are religious lecturers and students at USD and UGM. Data were collected with survey (using Google Form) and interviews. The results of the study show that religious education that incorporates elements of religiosity education is able to make students to be tolerant and open to other religious people so that it can help to counteract religious radicalism. These results are expected to be used as inspiration to develop Religious Education courses that are able to counteract religious radicalism among students.
