ETHNOMATHEMATICS EXPLORATION ON PLAOSAN TEMPLE IN CENTRAL JAVA AND ITS RELATION TO JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS TOPICS

Abstract
Indonesia is a multicultural country. These cultures should be seen as the nation assets and should be preserved. One way to preserve the culture is through formal education. This can be done, one of them, by implementing mathematical education based on culture. Field of mathematics that study the mathematical aspects found in a culture is called ethnomathematics. This study aims to find mathematical aspects found in Plaosan Temple in Klaten Regency, Central Java. This is a qualitative research using ethnography approach. The data were collected by interview and observation. This research found that counting the number of Perwara Tempels and Perwara Stupas are counting activities. Determining the location of the temple is a locating activity. Activity measuring is found in determining the dimension of the temple. The study identified geometrical figures found at Plaosan Temple. The explaining activity is done during the explanation of the philosophical meaning of Perwara Temple. The study analysed junior high school mathematics topics that can be related to Plaosan Temple.
