Abstract

This study aimed to explore the online English autonomous learning model in the Covid-19 situation implemented in learning English at Public vocational secondary schools (SMKN) 7 Buru Regency. The researchers used a qualitative descriptive design to investigate students' autonomous English learning. Sources of data in this study are classified into primary data through interviews and direct observation, and secondary data, through documentation. The sample in this study amounted to 6 people, one teacher and five students, which were selected using random sampling without considering specific characteristics. There were three main techniques in collecting data: observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. We analysed the data during and after the study using Miles and Huberman's (2019) thematic analysis procedure. The results found are 1) Students had high motivation if the materials were enjoyable and fit with the student's needs; 2) The teaching material provided by their teachers using WhatsApp; 3) Students' comprehension depends on how the teacher delivered the class and answered students’ questions; 4) students need external factor to support the learning process, supplementary resources, and assignment. The implication of this study has been given a contribution to the new model, namely the Online model of English autonomous learning.
