Abstract


In reading comprehension, students always find it challenging to know what the author wants to convey, so they need help understanding the text the teacher gave. The Language Experience Approach (LEA) is an approach to teaching reading that facilitates students' oral language to develop materials to acquire reading skills. This study was conducted at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone, Makassar, with 22 students as participants. The authors used a true-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test and explored the results through a Likert Scale. The results then found that the average score obtained in the post-test (74.1) was more significant than the pre-test (50.2). Meanwhile, the data on students' interests using questionnaires showed high results. In other words, the Language Experience Approach is practical and exciting to teach reading.
