Understanding Sexuality in Junior High School Adolescents

Abstract


This research aims to explore sources of information about sexuality and aspects that are still not understood regarding sexuality in subjects at Junior High School. The method used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to two groups of subjects, namely seventh-grade Junior High School students totaling 110 and ninth-grade Junior High School students totaling 69.

The first set of results pertains to the sources of information about sexuality accessed by the subjects. Seventh-grade subjects most commonly chose parents, followed by teachers, the internet, and their peers. In the case of ninth-grade subjects, the top choice was friends, followed by social media and school.

The second set of results, when asked about aspects of sexuality that are still not well understood, seventh-grade subjects most frequently mentioned the perception that sex is taboo, sexual harassment, understanding sexuality, and finally, the negative consequences of sexuality. For ninth-grade subjects, the most common responses were sexual education, followed by extramarital pregnancy, menstruation, early-age pregnancy, sensations related to sexual intercourse, and lastly, sexual addiction.
