THE MEANING OF COMMUNITY LEADERS’ INVOLVEMENT IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DRIVING COMMUNITY PROGRAM IN MAPPI REGENCY, SOUTH PAPUA PROVINCE: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY

Abstract


The purpose of this study is to analyse the meaning of community leaders' involvement in the elementary school driving community program in Mappi Regency, South Papua Province. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological study approach. The researcher used primary data obtained directly through interviews with informants. In the context of community leaders' involvement in supporting the education process in Mappi Regency, five main themes were found. The five themes are education improvement, hope and spirit, individual role and contribution, social impact, and local development. The researcher found that the five themes have their own meanings that influence the involvement of community leaders in the implementation of education in Mappi Regency. Based on the data of themes and analysis, it can be seen that the leaders show a strong commitment to advancing education in Mappi Regency through the community leaders teaching program. The leaders also have a mature understanding of the challenges and potentials in education, as well as a clear vision to create positive and sustainable changes. Overall, the activities of leaders teaching in elementary schools have a great potential in supporting the basic education program in Mappi Regency.
