Abstract

Indonesian people have known and used jamu for many generations to prevent and treat mild illnesses. Jamu drinking has become a custom in Indonesian culture, particularly in Yogyakarta. Adolescents now view rituals as archaic and out of date due to the advancement of the times. This study aims to find out whether adolescents in Yogyakarta still use jamu and to know the profile of knowledge and use of jamu among teenagers in Yogyakarta.               Questionnaires were given to respondents who were selected purposively in one of the high schools and junior high schools in Yogyakarta. Questionnaire data were analyzed univariately.               The results showed that adolescents still use herbal medicine with a moderate to high profile of knowledge. The use of herbal medicine among adolescents is used to prevent illness or treat minor illnesses and their sources of jamu information comes from their family.
