Abstract
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is increasingly recognized as a crucial aspect of students' overall development in education. SEL emphasizes the cultivation of skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and positive relationship building. Previous research has shown that SEL not only positively influences students' academic performance but also enhances their well-being and long-term success in various domains of life. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of social and emotional learning (SEL) among high school students. The research utilizes a mixed-methods approach, using explanatory research models. The study involved 88 participants from one of the Senior High Schools in Yogyakarta. Data collection technique involves administering a questionnaire comprising four components of SEL, namely Engagement, Teacher-Student Relationship, Valuing of Specific Subject, and Valuing of School, followed by interviews to gather more in-depth information. The result of this research is expected to be used as a guide for implementing social-emotional learning in a broader context.
