EVALUATION AND REFLECTION ON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' AWARENESS AND COMMITMENT TO CHARACTER EDUCATION IN ASMAT DISTRICT

Abstract


This research is motivated by the low quality of education in Asmat Regency which results in disparities with other regions. This is allegedly due to the low spirituality of teachers as seen from the level of awareness and commitment of teachers. The aims of this study were: (1) to evaluate the awareness and commitment of elementary school teachers to character education in Asmat District and (2) to describe the reflection results of teachers' awareness and commitment to character education in Asmat District.

This type of research is descriptive quantitative survey method. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The subjects involved in this study were 14 teachers.

The evaluation results found that elementary school teachers' awareness and commitment to character education was at a score of 3.695 on a scale of 5 (good category). Meanwhile, the reflection results of the teacher's awareness and commitment to character education which have been successfully described are (1) the teacher plays an important role in strengthening character in children, where the teacher must be able to be an example and exemplify what is conveyed; (2) developing enthusiasm in educating children at school and outside of school such as providing additional tutoring for children who are still unable to read and write.
