This research analyses challenges that faced by students of SMP Negeri 1 Mangoli Utara in learning English. This school have been being one of the big junior high schools in that island, Falabisahaya village, Mangoli Utara district, Kepulauan Sula regency, North Maluku province. The problem will be discussed into several part such as the lack of teaching staff especially for English lessons, less of enthusiasm to learn English, and teach who are less creative to attract student’s interest in learning. Writer used qualitative design to obtain the data and to present the result of this research. Action research in research that is oriented towards the application of action with the aim of improving the quality or solving problems in a group of subjects being studied and observing the level of success or consequences of their action, to be given follow-up action that are perfecting actions or adjustment to conditions and situations, in order to obtain good result.
