Abstract


Despite the flexibility and other advantages of online learning, there are some problems that appear in online classes including the students' lack of particiaption in English class. This research aims to discover the effects of implementing active learning in English online class. An online observation form and interview were employed to gather the data of this qualitative study. The participants were 80 students of grade X SMA BPK PENABUR Bogor Academic Year 2021/2022. The students were asked to be active in teacher's interactive lecture, brainstorming, and large group discussion. The results of this research suggest that the activities provided for active learning in English online class help the student to be engaged more to the lesson. The students responded actively when the teacher asked them to annotate the screen on Zoom Meeting and answer some questions. Furthermore, the students also have more understanding for the given materials.
