Abstract

Solidarity is a social value that thrives within Indonesian society, realized through the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation). This research analyzes how social solidarity is lived out in the Toraja and Lamaholot societies through the ethical maxims "Pada Rondong, Pada Lando" and "Bano Nao, Bano Ema." The main problem this research seeks to address is how local maxims function as a social glue amidst modernization, which increasingly fosters individualism. The objectives of this research are to understand the philosophical meaning contained within the maxims, to analyze the implementation of social solidarity in daily life, and to observe and compare the forms of solidarity in the two cultures. The method used in this research is qualitative-comparative. This method combines several ways of obtaining data, namely literature review, desk study, and interviews. The collected data is used to explore the meaning and practice of social solidarity reflected in these maxims. The results of this study show how the Toraja community displays social solidarity by emphasizing collective equality and mutual cooperation in various ceremonies and customary activities. Meanwhile, the Lamaholot community builds solidarity by stressing family ties and the spirit of togetherness, which is embodied through the symbol of "Satu Perahu, Satu Dayung" (One Boat, One Paddle). This maxim illustrates the importance of cooperation in maintaining collective unity as one community. This research is relevant for observing the importance of preserving local wisdom as a foundation for maintaining culture in the modern era. The study provides an overview that traditional values remain relevant as a foundation for strengthening social and cultural resilience amidst the growing phenomenon of individualization.
