From Nicaea to Asia: The Church’s Roots, Growth, and Fruitfulness
Last modified: 2025-03-10
Abstract
The legacy of the Council of Nicaea in 325 provides a theologically significant foundation in the framework of Christian theology, as well as in Asian theology. In the complex context of Asia, characterized by diversity, the desire to preserve Christian identity is often challenged by the urge to adapt within the Asian context. The question arises: Can the Church take root, grow, and bear fruit while transforming itself, all the while preserving the legacy of the Nicaean teachings? In this paper, the author uses a literature review method to examine the legacy of the Council of Nicaea on Asian theology, and how Asian theology, while being challenged by diversity, has successfully carried this legacy as a distinctive feature.
