Abstract


As men are perceived to be superior than women, women fail to experience equal opportunities and exercise their rights as a human being. Therefore, the writer tried to unravel the sexist society through a novel entitled Kim Ji Young, Born 1982 written by Cho Nam Joo. The aim of this study is to reveal sexist practices portrayed in the novel. The researcher chose the novel to study since sexism is reflected well through the female character’s experience. The method applied to conduct this study is library research. The writer used theory of gendered spheres proposed by Pilcher & Whelehan. It was revealed that female characters experienced sexism in public and private spheres through their roles as a daughter, student, employee, wife, and mother.
